Commentary for “Into the Wild” part one

Well I’m back from a wonderful long weekend at PAX in Seattle, I wonder if any of you guys went to the convention? I have an unfortunate schedule right now, my kickboxing class goes through the time that Heroes plays on Tuesday. I’ll be watching the rerun on Wednesdays so don’t ruin anything for me!

Onto the GN this week. Sigh…I really hoped that it would have turned out better than this. Don’t get me wrong, I can see how it works with Connie and Julien and all that. I just wished that they foreshadowed it a bit better, left some clues for us somewhere…perhaps in their company tracker profile or something. As it is like this, it really does feel like we’re being led around by our noses and we can’t really do anything ourselves, which doesn’t make this feel like an ARG at all.

So I guess I can say “Called it!” as I nailed the three silhouettes dead on (though I still think the story would’ve been better if it was Prince and not Connie). I’ll take a crack at the next two chapters and assume that Gael will be bringing the Kill/Kiss Squad with him and some choice specials. I really wonder where the Haitian is in all of this and I wonder how his nullification power will affect Julien’s clones.

Commentary on “The Golden Goose”

I’d like to welcome to the HeroesARG family two new writers. MrScaryMuffin and Sarah will be commenting on the graphic novels, discussing their different [or same] opinions on each week’s novel, hopefully bringing to light different parts of the novel, maybe making us put a little more thought into them. Please welcome them and let them know how they’re doing. — Frank

Clever title, I didn’t really give it much thought until I started writing this.

Hello all, I’m MrScaryMuffin and, along with Sarah, I will be commenting on the weekly graphic novels. Let’s hope that the writer’s strike won’t interfere with the consistent run of the comics.

This week’s comic has the good grace to further confusticate our notions of one Richard Drucker. Insofar, the ARG has provided us with a bunch of information about Drucker before slowly stripping each “fact” of their validity. I’ll admit that this guy has got me well perplexed. I no longer know if he was in Bhutan the whole time or he planted Goose to impersonate him while he continued gallivanting across the globe in his particular style. Even when Goose mentions that they stuck around for fifteen years, I feel that the “they” is purposefully ambiguous.

We learn eventually that Drucker was flying the plane when it crashed. His comment at the end of the first page tells us that Goose did not know of Drucker’s plans until after the crash. The computer in Goose’s (Geese?) room suggests that he and Drucker may be maintaining contact. That is, Drucker is giving instructions and Goose is able to let Drucker know if anyone is out looking for him. Goose seems like a nice, mellow guy in his cavalier readiness to accept any given situation. Pity he’s dead.

I already mentioned this, but I really like the title. The Golden Goose obviously refers to the way Goose died, but it also draws our attention to what everyone is after: the wild chase for that nugget of “truth”. As well, it could also refer to the all-important clue of Drucker’s whereabouts, something as valuable as gold. Or more valuable, if you get as much of the yellow stuff as Bob does.

Speaking of Bob, I wonder if I was the only person who had a hard time pinning him. I have no real complaints about the art style, but I feel that the slight unrecognizable quality of Bob in his first appearance in this novel added an unnecessary confusion in an already confusing plotline. He seems skinnier in the comic, which is funny since, in the easter egg, his pose prominently portrays his protruding portliness.

The next volume is “Villains” and it seems that our attention is being drawn towards the antagonistic side of characters; in this case, Bob. This is suggested through last week’s hint of Adam’s eventual escape from earthworm heaven and Drucker emerging as a crazy-eyed schizophrenic.

Episode & Graphic Novel Archive

You may have noticed something new in the menu-bar above. Serena and I have put together the new HeroesARG Episode and Graphic Novel Archive. We took [with permission] the list we posted from SacValleyDweller on HeroesWiki, and heavily modified it.

It’s got a bunch of info in one place:

Episode number and date
Episode title
Link to HeroesWiki page for that episode
Link to Greg Beeman’s blog for that week

Graphic Novel number and date
Graphic Novel title
Graphic Novel link on NBC
Link to the HeroesARG post
Link to the HeroesWiki post

It will stay updated, so check it out, and tell your friends. If you think there’s something we should add, let us know. We tried to keep it chock full of info, but not let it get crowded. Let us know what you think.
