Review: 3.12, “Our Father”
After a disappointing filler feeling episode last week, we were treated to an amazing episode this week.
For the first time, we see the meeting of arguably the two biggest players to the series. Hiro time travels back with Claire to stop her from getting the Catalyst in the first place. Masi and Hayden have a great chemistry, even when Hiro didn’t speak English. Taking it waaay back to when Hiro was young, and Claire was a baby, we see different sides of characters.
Sandra as a new mother, Noah before he was HRG, and Kaito as his wife is dying. Hiro’s mother was incredibly touching. She was a sweet woman who carried a burden. The catalyst that can change the history of the world. It’s her hope and faith in her own son that’s brought Hiro where he is. When he regains his memories and tells her that she was his guiding light, the sheer joy and pride in her face was enough make things all better.

Was the Right Path Taken? This question plagues (and I mean totally pelts) our Heroes. Much of this show, since Episode 1 has been the questioning of choices. And ultimately that is what life is about. The writers not only keep us on our toes about where the season is going, but brings us in closer, by giving us themes we can all relate to. Long Winding Paths, losing our way, forging our own courses guided by faith to find a kindred soul, seeking solace in the arms of another, or even removing ourselves from a path to avoid temptation, in some form or another the Heroes journey just as we do. Okay, philosophical, deep chatter done, onwards and upwards!
