Review: Episode 3.09, “It’s Coming”
- Arthur messes with Hiro’s mind, making him think he’s 10 years old again. Ando teaches/helps him relearn how to use his power.
- Gabriel is brought face to face with Elle, in Arthur’s attempt to teach him empathy and help him learn that he doesn’t need to kill to gain powers.
- Claire deems herself Peter’s protector
- Mohinder figures out there’s a missing piece to the formula
- Matt finds Angela and pulls her from the mental prison Arthur put her in. He barely makes it out, Arthur’s influence is still strong, but Daphne’s change of heart gives him strength to overcome it
- Saving the Cheerleader bit Peter in the butt. Hard.
Whoof, chills going down my spine over it. Mesmerizing, luring, quick, and mysterious. But when all was said and done, where was the eclipse?! All the hype, and we have to wait one more episode for it?
The title crawl was ingenius. And the amazing electricity effect, it’s like the world exploding picture that we’ve seen. The sound effect like a taser to the brain, when Matt tried to get in Angela’s head. How does Daphne run in the heels? Eclipse shape on gas pipe.
Arthur possibly been erased some of Hiro’s mind to the point his brain has gone back to his 10 year old years. But he’ll get to relearn his powers, perhaps even learn something new on the way. However Ando was right, he has a lot of work to do. I found it interesting that when Hiro teleports for, in his mind, to a bowling alley, where they serve American Syle” waffles and chicken. This nod at the Westernization in other countries just reflects Hiro as a character, his roots in Japan, but his life in America. I was ecstatic to see the adorable comic book lover in Hiro again, running around the comic book store. One of the big questions for the week: Who’s writing the 9th Wonder’s comic books? Isaac didn’t write the one Ando showed Hiro?
Daphne obviously cares about Matt, but not enough to learn how not to be stupid about Arthur. She keeps saying she doesn’t want to go back to how she was, and that Arthur is the one who can do it. I think evidence suggests heavily that perhaps Daphne was a serum baby, and Arthur can take the ability away. I think it was incredibly sweet, how Matt forgave her at the end. This episode dealt heavily with the them of forgiveness, Matt and Daphne, Gabriel and Elle. Killing is too easy. Saving a life is hard. Forgiving one’s self. Forgiving.
Bringing Elle and Gabriel together, déjà vu except Gabriel and Elle aren’t eating pie, Sylar’s not trying to steal her power, and Gabriel get’s fried. Gabriel knows what Elle feels on a personal level, all the pain he’s caused himself, and understands the want for revenge, in a way, he’s almost cleansing himself by letting her take it all out on him. He was completely stripped of layers and layers of skin, shedding and regrowing.
Nathan’s definitely grown a spine since season 1 and it’s a great improvement. Legacy. Petrelli Legacy. Father. Powerful words that would have swayed him to Arthur’s side in earlier. The strong Nathan figure we saw in the flashback last week seemed out of place, because after that time, the early episodes of Season 1, we saw Nathan in the light of someone trying to climb the ladder.
Tracey knows where the power will lie. She’s a sociology aptitude who knows where to stand to stay alive. When the dust settles she wants to be on the winning side, and as is usual in these cases, it’s not going to end well for her. With this act of a mercy killing, does Mohinder actually get better as a character? It’s becoming apparent that he’s realizing just how bad his work is.
Despite the “Heroes” coming together and the “Villains” grouping up (where will Hiro fall?) I don’t think things will remain as we see them now. The eclipse will put things in shadows, shed a new light on many things perhaps including where true loyalties will lie..
I find something off about Claire being as important as a catalyst. She’s seemed the main player of the show, switching off with Peter, and we’ve seen much of both their lives. The great role Peter has played leads me to believe that his large role might not be over.
It’s Green week. Recycle. Don’t pave over old fishing spots to build shady genetic research companies.

I think the only thing I didn’t like about this episode was when Peter and Claire were underground… Peter was trying to save Claire, and he looks up to this pipe… and the audience sees this shot so many times..to make it too obvious that Peter’s waiting for Flint to fire at the pipe…
And my friend pointed out, that Isaac Mendez is dead, so how are there still 9th Wonders comics being published? This doesn’t make sense unless there is one really good artist that can continue Isaac’s artwork, with an ability to see the future, but this seems to be unlikely.

I know that there are books that will be published after an author’s death, like Nancy Drew and the Boxcar Children books, but we saw Isaac have the last comic book delivered and all that.
I wonder if it was one of the issues before that, that he just saw really far into the future for? Even that’s sort of unlikely.

Could this comic book be the final draft book that Isaac Mendez gave the courier before he had is brain poked?
Great review again, I loved it at the end when you had the heroes rallying round Angela and the villains rallying around Arthur, quite a powerful ending. Cant wait for the next one.

It looks like we are back to “Save the cheerleader, save the world.” From both perspectives. Pinehearst wants to save her so she can give thier serum catalyst, Primatech wants to save her so Pinehearst won’t get her. Therefore everyone wants to save the cheerleader.
I am afraid this is all going to end as a copout when the Haitian blocks arthur’s powers again and then he is killed. While I like the Haitian, I hate obvious and simple endings like that. I hope the writers have something more fun in store for us.

@sdlaw- exept herself; she currently wants to feel pain and die (obiviously after living her life fully)

I enjoyed this and it looks like Claude was right when he told Elle to let it out.

Yeah, and it seems like Claude is a mentor… first Peter, then Elle.
