Commentary for “Foresight”
Up late tonight, so I might as well add my thoughts to yours as you guys take a perusal through the GN. Remember, if our site’s template hasn’t updated the GN yet, you can just take last week’s PDF and easter egg link and increase the chapter number by one to get this week’s stuff.
We have Alitha Martinez to thank for this and last week’s GN and they’re absolutely stunning in terms of artwork. I just have to take a moment aside to say that I’m a big fan. It’s like a breath of fresh air after all the hyper skinny chicks. In my mind, all the women portrayed in this week’s GN is much more attractive.
The ending gives us a horrible TBC cliffhanger and we don’t really know when this story will pick up again. Volume three starts soon, so maybe this story line will be wrapped up on the TV series? We’ll just have to wait and see as we usually do.
Hit the jump for the page by page analysis…
Penny sure does have her hands full. I’m guessing that she must be a super ace at all secret agent training stuff, probably could take on James Bond in a fist fight. Is Felicia only 0.05% special? It seems like her powers are only realized in her right arm. Thompson and Connie’s fight looks like it could turn into an evening gown match at any moment and Gael looks like he’s just having a couple’s shouting match with Bianca instead of anything serious. The first panel is like a “rate-a-conflict” card where you compare a conflict to the panel in order to determine its level of severity.
It seems like the text box could be either Bianca’s or Donna’s internal monologue. Although the GN is set up in a way that it seems to imply Bianca, I’ll say that this is a logical continuation of the previous GN and that it’s actually still Donna that we’re listening to. However, the beauty of this layout is that the thought boxes can really be applicable to both Bianca and Donna. Similarly, we have Thompson apparently thinking “I have a bad feeling” but I still think that it’s Donna thinking. But it works either way. Take a note kids: when kicking in a door, always aim for the area near the doorknob, where the door frame is the weakest (you’re breaking the frame with the lock bolt, instead of breaking the door).
Although I did sing the artist praises before, I do have to say that Thompson’s face here and Bianca’s face in the previous page’s first panel weren’t up to par. But the other touches are quite nice and Donna has never looked better than she does here in a towel. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Gael wakes up and thinks he’s under jurisdiction or something. We get a time reference for the Kill Squad (almost wrote Kiss Squad there) story arc here as well, which puts a lot things tightly together. Donna and Thompson would have their plant man mission (Kiss Squad 1), then recover and hunt out Julien, then chase Sabine and Julien, then arrive at this situation.
Mmm…towel. Can’t really blame Thompson for wandering eyes, the artwork is really good for this page, though Thompson looks a bit like me now. That is, asian. Might explain his affixation with red dragon leather jackets, however. On the last panel, it looks like Nissan might have a competitor for the most blatant product placement as we’re treated to an extreme closeup view of Donna’s Samsung Sprint.
Differently text box here, I wonder if they meant for it to be yellow and white. Thompson’s car must have been a big expense on the company credit card. You can bet your ass that he wrote it off too, as a necessary chick magnet to sustain his position as the company slut. We also get to see the Samsung Sprint functionally, as its GPS guides Donna and Thompson to the rendez vous point. Good thing Gael is on the phone with the Kiss Squad, since Donna is asking for an army. We have three people in view here, my guess is that the right most person is Julien and Sabine is in the middle. This makes sense with Donna’s request for an army since Julien himself is an army of one. It follows that Sabine is around and, since they were supposed to go and meet Evs, the last person should be Evs. The leftmost person has funkalicious hair that either belongs to the artist formerly known as the artist formerly known as Prince…or Connie. Now, the leftmost person might not necessarily be Evs, it could be a set up or whatever, but I’m just callings it as I sees it. What are your thoughts?

You spelled Kill Squad wrong…
Sorry, for the correction, I just can’t get over it.
As far as your theory concerning the three silhouettes, I completely agree with your theory, although I’m disappointed Evs isn’t someone connected to the show. We’ll see.

After the first one, I misspelled Kill Squad on purpose as a joke
As for the silhouettes…Evs doesn’t necessarily have to be one of the three, though it is very likely that it is the case.

I’m still torn over the silhouettes. There are theories that say one or all are Evs and others that think Evs may be trapping others. Nice break down. I’m short on sleep myself. I do what Peter Petrelli used to do for a living, 11-7 shift, and it’s exhausting. Rewarding, but Exhausting.
