Volume 3: Villains Premieres on Sept. 22

feature photo

Update [6/4]: It’s official. The third season of Heroes will debut on Monday, September 22 at 9/8c.

Update [5/27]: NBC’s Primetime 2008-2009 Schedule clearly shows that all shows will start on the week of September 8. However, several non-NBC sites have the premiere date set for September 15 or 22. It’s still months away, so just double check on NBC’s schedule in late August.

Update [5/11]: The trailer for Volume 3: Villains is out now! It’s embedded below:

Update [4/29]: Sci Fi Wire published an article last week that there will be a three-hour premiere on September 15th.

Heroes Returns; Origins Dies

Heroes will return to NBC on Sept. 15 with an expanded third-season opener, but network executives confirmed that the proposed prequel spinoff, Heroes: Origins, is officially dead.

“We consciously chose to rest [Heroes] this spring so that [creator] Tim Kring and his team could get ahead of the creative and build up to a massive event–a three-hour Heroes night,” Ben Silverman, co-chairman of NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios, said during the network’s upfront presentation to advertisers in New York on April 2. “On Monday, Sept. 15, we’ll kick off with a Heroes clip show to try to bring back the audience and [then air] a massive two-hour Heroes film.”

Silverman also explained why the heavily hyped, much-anticipated Heroes: Origins was scrapped. The show was originally conceived to help eliminate Heroes repeats, and directors and writers–including feature-film vets Kevin Smith, Eli Roth and Michael Dougherty–were already lined up before NBC dropped the idea.

“We were taxing our creative team to do too much around that,” Silverman said. “We wanted 35 Heroes [episodes] and 12 Heroes: Origins, each of which was supposed to be a mini-movie and backdoor pilot. We reached far and challenged our people, and we decided it was better to focus on keeping the Heroes mothership as strong as possible.”

Update [4/3]: BuddyTV posted NBC’s Fall lineup. Click here for more information. It has been changed to September 15th.

[3/27]: 9th Wonders’ PetrelliByNature announced that Heroes’ third season, Volume 3: Villians will air on September 8th, 2008.

Chris Zatta is a writer’s assistant on Heroes and actually wrote the episode “Parasite.” ~PbN’s note.

“First off, the Heroic League of Scribblers wish to thank all our loyal fans for their support during this important milestone in the history of the Writer’s Guild and Hollywood. We could never express our gratitude to hear from all of you and even see you on the picket line. It kept us strong. It kept us proud. And it kept us eager to get back to work on making the best show ever. Which takes me to the matter at hand…
HEROES will be back on the air Monday, September 7th with the start of Season 3 – Volume 3: Villains. And the great news is that NBC has ordered 25 episodes!
Yes, there is a long time between now and September. But we do believe absence makes the heart grow both fonder and hungrier. And when we start back up we’re going to have 13 new episodes airing straight through September to December!
We, the writers, have been back in the writer’s room for almost two weeks now, but production won’t begin until May. The last time we had that much time to craft our emotional, exciting and aggressive stories was before the start of Season 1. We are ecstatic to have this opportunity to recapture all the energy Heroes had when it first burst through the starting gate!
And we’re going to start the season with adrenaline! A lot is going to happen and it’s going to be a thrill ride. New characters – Old ones you never expected to see again. Villains – Lot’s of them. Throughout all of this, we’ll never lose sight of the greater picture that keeps all of our heroes forever connected and working to save the world!
On behalf of the entire writing staff on Heroes, thank you for standing by our side!

Chris Zatta”

The date in this note says September 7th, which is on a Sunday instead of a Monday. PetrelliByNature wrote of this:

Sorry about the date.

The seventh is a Sunday, as people have told me. I assume that Chris meant the eighth, since that would be that week’s Monday. But the Countdown clock is still running, just have to add 24 hours to it.

Again, sorry about the confusion. I’m just the messenger.

~PbN.

Chris Zatta on his mistake:

I’m sorry - that’s a typo I thought I corrected. We were told the it was the 7th, then realized that Monday is going to be on the 8th. Heroes day is still Monday and we will premiere on September 8th.
Chris

  6. Probably just the fact that another series is longer than they thought. But if they move it back again somethings up. :(

  7. Three hour premiere.. That’s rad!

  8. it was moved because NBC is premiering all their shows that week.

  9. That makes sense.

  10. OMG I can’t wait.. especially after I watched the Teaser Trailer on YouTube.

  12. I know, the new trailer is good. I had the speakers turned up, trying to listen to the creep monster voice in the background.

  13. can anyone tell who the villan/hero pictures are of?

  14. From left to right: Nathan, Claire, Peter, Niki, Hiro

  15. Hayden Panettiere posted the following on her blog:

I’m very excited to get back to Heroes in May and see all my cast mates. I also just received the script for episode one and let me tell you, it’s great! Heroes is back to the action and adventure that went on in the first season and even the first episode is packed with cliff hangers and lots of cool stuff!

  16. ****SPOILER****

*Kristen @ E! posted the biggest spoiler ever for Heroes!

    *Read at your peril.

*It’s a bit long winded so just go to the bit next to sylar’s picture.

I remind you again it is a giant spoiler!

  17. I think that’s the same link I posted in the shoutbox a few weeks ago. I can’t wait!

  18. how is this a giant spoiler? we don’t know who the heck she is talking about. It is just a teaser more than a spoiler. It could be a star character, a star actor/actress, or the fattest guy on the show. Oh yeah, the ptb have been saying we would see Sylar’s power in use in Part 3 all along. I am looking forward to the season though.

  19. Refer back to the Jules Verne festival trailers. Based on that footage, I think it’s fairly obvious who she’s referring to, especially based on the actress’ original contract.

  20. Quote from above “HEROES will be back on the air Monday, September 7th with the start of Season 3 – Volume 3: Villains. And the great news is that NBC has ordered 25 episodes!”
    Sources @ heroes-TV.com indicated upto 35 episodes

  21. I can’t wait for the premier!!! I am about to jizz all over myself in anticipation!!!! ARGGGHHH it can’t get her soon enough. I wish I had Hiro’s abilities =-). I would bend time to the premier =)

  22. Man, what’s with all the different info? Some sites say the 7th, some the 15th, and some the 22nd.

  23. The latest sources all point to the 22nd. I think that’s the right date.

  24. Yes, it’s on the 22nd.

  25. Does anyone know where to find a countdown to the premiere
