Commentary for “The Kill Squad” part one

Although I was saying how I liked the idea of a whole new cast for season two not but a week ago, this week’s GN is making me think twice about that opinion. Sean Fallon just seems to be forced into the story line a bit too much. There was absolutely no indication of a “Kill Squad” prior to this and, indeed, some things that are hinted at here does not work at all with what we already know.

As mentioned in the comments already, this GN implies that there is a strong link between the Company and the government and armed forces. Such is the case, then why did Linderman, who supposedly headed the Company, need to rig an election? Furthermore, I don’t really see the need to make the president into a puppet. Ok, I can see some merit in it, but you’ll probably get more done with a handful of Congressmen and Senators.

Aside from that, what does a Kill Squad imply for the series? I wonder if it’s some excuse to bring back those military extras from the future sequence of the first season. The more we learn about the Company, the less I enjoy the series. Perhaps it was better when they were super secretive and we only knew as much as the “heroes”.

The German got away

I apologize for the lateness of this post. The new voicemail, email and text message came in yesterday afternoon, but i’ve been busy remodeling our master bathroom [that's a good excuse, right?].

First, the text message:

Thompson’s been receiving a high volume of voicemails. Check them out on ur comp at boards.9thwonders.com/index.php?showtopic=63845

B. The email:

I’m not so sure that 9th wonders is the safest place for me to be posting anymore. I’m searching for a new outlet. I’ve posted a few more of Thompson’s voicemails so you’re all in the loop of everything that’s going on in and out of the Company. Check the thread: http://boards.9thwonders.com/index.php?showtopic=63845&st=150&gopid=688124&#entry688124

3, the voicemail:

Transcript: Our European friend got away. There’s no need for pestering [pasture finding?]. He won’t bother anyone else. You need to check out this 9th Wonders thing. I think they’re on to us. The mole may be getting deeper. I’ll check in later.

So, how did The German get away? And why won’t he be bothering anyone else?

Yet another voicemail from Evs

Evs has posted yet another voicemail on 9thWonders. Just the voicemail, no message with it.

20080626_recording__16142185862_20080626_072711.wav ( 509.26K )

Hello, This is Jao Mao Chang of the Red Tiger Division of the Defense Department. I believe you are familiar with the truce that the two organizations [scrambled] um, [or i'm] willing to renegotiate any terms of our truce. If you would like to give me a call back I will be available at 218-5862. You may contact me in Peking, Hajin Province, Delong, in Lemuria. Thank you.

It appears slowing down, speeding it up, and adjusting the speaker balance does not bring anything to light in the scrambled part.

Commentary for “Berlin” part two

I’m glad that, with all the set up involved in the previous GN, we get some action and other funtime events. Sometimes the story gets quite elaborate in our favourite weekly comics. I can’t help but think back to how Season two was supposed to feature an entirely different cast. I know that I complained in the past about new characters suddenly popping up here and there in the GNs with no explanations, but some of them were pretty cool. It makes me wonder how we would have taken it if Season two really did feature new people. I think it actually might have worked out, at least better than the mess of a storytelling ordeal that we got instead.

With all the talk of the third volume, it’s hard to remember that once there was a plan to feature a new cast every season. We have our favourite characters and hated antagonists that we cheer for and rally against. Still, we’re moving on to the third volume knowing that we’ll be seeing Sylar again and a bunch others. But if you’ve got an itching for something different, something fresh, at least you’ve got the GNs to fall back on.

This week’s GN in particular, features a slew of people that we don’t (and may never) see on TV. I wonder if the original plans for Season two is stashed away somewhere, or if it’s being used for these GNs.
